Child Abuse

Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN)
CCAN is a university-based center that directs research, professional and public education, clinical services, and administrative programs in the field of child maltreatment. Since 1992, CCAN has provided high-quality, reliable, and consistent services to Oklahoma families and professionals in the area of child maltreatment.

Childhelp USA
Childhelp USA exists to meet the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of abused and neglected children by focusing efforts in the areas of treatment, prevention, and research.

Child Molestation Research and Prevention Institute
The Child Molestation Research & Prevention Institute is a national science-based nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse through research, education, and family support. Because people who develop a sexual interest in children usually develop it during their teenage years and even younger, the focus of the Institute is on providing information to professionals and to families about the early warning signs of a problem, as well as the availability of early diagnosis and effective treatment from a sex-specific specialist.

Child Welfare Information Gateway
Formerly the National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information and the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse, Child Welfare Information Gateway provides access to information and resources to help protect children and strengthen families. A service of the Children's Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.


Child Welfare League of America (CWLA)
CWLA is the nation's oldest and largest membership-based child welfare organization. We are committed to engaging people everywhere in promoting the well-being of children, youth, and their families, and protecting every child from harm.

Child Witness to Violence Project (CWVP)
CWVP is a counseling, advocacy, and outreach project that focuses on the growing number of young children who are hidden victims of violence: children who are bystanders to community and domestic violence. The project began in 1992 and currently counsels over 100 children and their families each year, in addition to implementing both national and state-focused training for health care professionals, police, educators, and many other social service professionals who confront issues of children witnessing violence.

Mothers Against Sexual Abuse (MASA)
MASA offers educational programs to teachers, child caregivers and professionals for the prevention and detection of child sexual abuse. MASA develops these programs and takes a vital role in their implementation.

National Center for the Prosecution of Child Abuse
In 1985, the National District Attorneys Association established the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse as a program of the American Prosecutors Research Institute (APRI). Aimed at responding to an increasing volume of reported child abuse, the National Center serves as a central resource for training, expert legal assistance, court reform and state-of-the-art information on criminal child abuse investigations and prosecutions.

National Center on Child Fatality Review (NCFR)
The mission of NCFR is to develop and promote a nationwide system of Child Fatality Review Teams to improve the health, safety and well being of children and reduce preventable child fatalities.

National Children's Advocacy Center (NCAC)
NCAC is a non-profit agency providing prevention, intervention, and treatment services to physically and sexually abused children and their families within a child-focused team approach. Since opening in 1985 as the nation's first Children's Advocacy Center, the NCAC has become a leader in the field of prevention and intervention of child maltreatment.

National Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence (NCCAFV)
The commitment of NCCAFV is to intergenerational family violence prevention -- of child abuse, domestic violence (spouse/partner abuse) and elder abuse. NCCAFV provides public awareness and education materials, program and resource development consultation, and technical assistance and training in the United States and internationally.

Parents Anonymous
Parents Anonymous Inc is the nation's oldest child abuse prevention and treatment organization, dedicated to strengthening families and building caring communities that support safe and nurturing homes for all children.

Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) America
Since 1972, PCA America has led the way in building awareness, providing education and inspiring hope to everyone involved in the effort to prevent the abuse and neglect of our nation's children. Working with chapters in 39 states and the District of Columbia, PCA America provides leadership to promote and implement prevention efforts at both the national and local levels.

Safe Kids/Safe Streets
The Safe Kids/Safe Streets initiative from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) applies comprehensive, community-wide strategies to the reduction of child abuse and neglect. Building on a multifaceted strategy grounded in research about the causes and correlates of juvenile delinquency as well as effective prevention and intervention techniques, the program explores the linkages between child maltreatment, domestic violence, and juvenile delinquency.

Stop It Now!
This agency's mission is to call on all abusers and potential abusers to stop and seek help, to educate adults about the ways to stop sexual abuse, and to increase public awareness of the trauma of child sexual abuse.

Domestic Violence

Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence
The mission of the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence is to eliminate family violence and to strengthen Asian families and communities.

Battered Women's Justice Project
The project's mission is to promote systemic change in community organizations and governmental agencies engaged in the civil and criminal justice response to domestic violence that creates true institutional accountability to the goal of ensuring safety for battered women and their families.

Corporate Alliance to End Partner Violence (CAEPV)
CAEPV is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the costs and consequences of partner violence at work - and eliminating it altogether. From policies and programs to legal issues and legislation, CAEPV is a credible source for information, materials and advice.

FaithTrust Institute
The Center for Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence, now known as FaithTrust Institute, is an interreligious educational resource addressing issues of sexual and domestic violence. Their goal is to engage religious leaders in the task of ending abuse, and to prepare human services professionals to recognize and attend to the religious issues that may arise in their work with females in crisis. Their emphasis is on education and prevention.

Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project (GMDVP)
GMDVP is a grassroots, non-profit organization providing community education and direct services for clients. GMDVP offers shelter, guidance, and resources to allow gay, bisexual, and transgender men in crisis to remove themselves from violent situations and relationships.

Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community (IDVAAC) The IDVAAC mission is to provide an interdisciplinary vehicle and forum by which scholars, practitioners, and observers of family violence in the African American community will have the continual opportunity to articulate their perspectives on family violence through research findings, the examination of service delivery and intervention mechanisms, and the identification of appropriate and effective responses to prevent/reduce family violence in the African American community.

Jane Doe, Inc. (JDI)
JDI, The Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence brings together organizations and people committed to ending domestic violence and sexual assault. This organization creates social change by addressing the root causes of this violence, and promote justice, safety and healing for survivors. JDI advocates for responsive public policy, promotes collaboration, raises public awareness, and supports our member organizations to provide comprehensive prevention and intervention services.

Jewish Women International (JWI)
JWI, founded in 1897 as B'nai B'rith women, honors the concept of tikkun olam — repairing the world-through education, advocacy and action. Guided by a vision of a safe world for women and children, each anti-violence initiative promotes the highest form of tzedakah by helping women and children become independent and help themselves.

National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence
The National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence (Alianza) is a group of nationally recognized Latina and Latino advocates, community activists, practitioners, researchers, and survivors of domestic violence working together to promote understanding, sustain dialogue, and generate solutions to move toward the elimination of domestic violence affecting Latino communities, with an understanding of the sacredness of all relations and communities.

National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV)
NCADV is dedicated to the empowerment of battered women and their children and therefore is committed to the elimination of personal and societal violence in the lives of battered women and their children.

National Domestic Violence Hotline
Help is available to callers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hotline advocates are available for victims and anyone calling on their behalf to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, information and referrals to agencies in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Assistance is available in English and Spanish with access to more than 140 languages through interpreter services. Please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or TTY 1-800-787-3224.

National Institute of Justice: Intimate Partner Violence
This section of the National Institute of Justice Web site provides an overview of intimate partner violence, including the extent of the problem, causes and consequences, and intervention.  Also included on this site are publications and additional resources.

National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV)
NNEDV, a social change organization representing state domestic violence coalitions, is dedicated to creating a social, political and economic environment in which violence against women no longer exists.

Women Against Domestic Violence (WADV)
The goal of WADV is to provide a safe haven for victims and survivors alike, by perpetuating awareness and education to our communities, in an effort to change societal viewpoints on domestic violence.

Working Together to End the Violence
Sponsored by the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), this online tool contains information and resources for both victims and those seeking to help them. Resources, including a public service announcement, are available in both English and Spanish.

Elder Abuse

Eldercare Locator
This nationwide toll-free service (1-800-677-1116) helps older adults and their caregivers find local services for seniors, including home care, transportation, housing alternatives, home repair, recreation, social activities, and legal and other community services. The directory is a service of the U.S. Administration on Aging.

National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA)
NCEA exists to provide elder abuse information to professionals and the public; offer technical assistance and training to elder abuse agencies and related professionals; conduct short-term elder abuse research; and assist with elder abuse program and policy development.

National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life (NCALL)
The Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence created NCALL in 1999 with funding from the Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women. NCALL has been the nationally recognized leader on program development, policy and technical assistance and training that addresses the nexus between domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse/neglect. The vision of NCALL is to end abuse and neglect of older adults and people with disabilities by family members, caregivers and others with ongoing relationships with victims.

National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCPEA)
NCPEA is an association of researchers, practitioners, educators, and advocates dedicated to protecting the safety, security, and dignity of America 's most vulnerable citizens. It was established in 1988 to achieve a clearer understanding of abuse and provide direction and leadership to prevent it. The Committee is one of six partners that make up the National Center on Elder Abuse, which is funded by Congress to serve as the nation's clearinghouse on information and materials on abuse and neglect.

Family Violence

Family Violence Department of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges
The Family Violence Department of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, is dedicated to improving the way courts, law enforcement, government agencies, and others respond to family violence.

Family Violence Prevention Fund
The Family Violence Prevention Fund works to prevent violence in the home and community and to help those whose lives are devastated by abuse.

Institute for Family Violence Studies
The endowed Institute for Family Violence Studies has been established within Florida State University's College of Social Work to research family violence as it occurs in all age groups, including children, adults, and the elderly and distribute the findings of this research at the local, state, national, and international levels.

National Center for Children Exposed to Violence (NCCEV)
NCCEV exists to increase public and professional awareness of the effects of violence on children and to build the capacity of individuals and communities to reduce the impact of violence.

National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC)
NCVC provides direct services and resources, advocates laws and public policies that protect victims, delivers training and technical assistance to victim service providers and allied professionals, and fosters thinking about the impact of crime and how individuals can help victims regain control of their lives.

National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women
The goal of the National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women (VAWnet) is to harness and use electronic communication Technology as a resource for those working to end violence against Women. In order to accomplish this goal, VAWnet staff and consultants collect, analyze, prepare and electronically disseminate information and materials on domestic violence, sexual assault, and related issues via VAWnet's web site and facilitated listserv discussions.

Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN)
RAINN is the Nation's largest antisexual assault organization and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline.

Stop Family Violence
The mission of Stop Family Violence is to organize and amplify the nation's collective voice against family violence. They are a catalyst for social change - empowering people to take action at the local, state and national level to ensure safety, justice, accountability and healing for people whose lives are affected by violent relationships.

Federal

Administration for Children and Families
The Administration for Children and Families of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funds State, local, and Indian tribal organizations to provide family assistance (welfare), child support and care, Head Start, child welfare, and other programs relating to children and families.

National Center for Injury Prevention and Control
A division of the Center for Disease Control, the center works to reduce morbidity, disability, mortality, and costs associated with nonoccupational injuries, including those that result from violence.

Office for Victims of Crime (OVC)
OVC was established by the 1984 Victims of Crime Act to oversee diverse programs that benefit victims of crime. OVC provides substantial funding to State victim assistance and compensation programs-the lifeline services that help victims to heal. The agency supports trainings designed to educate criminal justice and allied professionals regarding the rights and needs of crime victims.

The Office on Women's Health (OWH)
OWH of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is the government's champion and focal point for women's health issues, and works to redress inequities in research, health care services, and education that have historically placed the health of women at risk. The OWH coordinates women's health efforts in HHS to eliminate disparities in health status and supports culturally sensitive educational programs that encourage women to take personal responsibility for their own health and wellness.

Office on Violence Against Women (OVW)
Since its inception in 1995, the Violence Against Women Office, now OVW has handled the Department's legal and policy issues regarding violence against women, coordinated Departmental efforts, provided national and international leadership, received international visitors interested in learning about the Federal government's role in addressing violence against women, and responded to requests for information regarding violence against women. OVW works closely with other components of OJP, the Office of Legal Policy, the Office of Legislative Affairs, the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, the Immigration and Naturalization Office, the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, U.S. Attorneys' Offices, and state, tribal and local jurisdictions to implement the mandates of the Violence Against Women Act and subsequent legislation.

International

Alliance for Children and Families
With more than 350 members, Alliance for Children and Families members represent a significant force in the human services sector. Alliance members have a cumulative operating budget of $3.6 billion, almost 53, 000 FTEs, 7,000 board members, 58,000 volunteers and serve over 8,000 communities in over 2, 700 locations. Alliance member organizations also have over 560,000 individual donors. In all, over 3.4 million clients participate in Alliance member services annually.

Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearinghouse
The clearinghouse is a national resource on issues of domestic violence and family violence. It provides a central point for the collection and dissemination of Australian domestic and family violence policy, practice, and research.

British Columbia Institute Against Family Violence
The institute's mission is to support, coordinate, and initiate research and education programs that promote the elimination of violence in all families.

National Clearinghouse on Family Violence
The clearinghouse is a national resource center for all Canadians seeking information about violence in the family and looking for new resources being used to address it. By sharing the latest research findings and information on all aspects of prevention, protection, and treatment, the clearinghouse seeks to help Canadian communities work toward the eventual elimination of all forms of family violence.

Stop Violence Against Women (STOPVAW)
STOPVAW is a forum for information, advocacy and change. Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights developed this website as a tool for the promotion of women's human rights in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Mongolia, and the U.N. Protectorate of Kosovo.
