These SBI states will reimburse doctors and medical professionals who screen their Medicaid-eligible patients for a variety of substance use behaviors and disorders, thereby reducing costs for substance abuse and health care. A total of $600,000 is available to develop and pilot test a toolkit consisting of multiple guidebooks designed to implement and sustain community policing efforts. Obstacles between the two groups included mutual distrust between Arab-American communities and law enforcement, lack of cultural awareness by law enforcement officers, and residents’ concerns about immigration status.
