Introduction About OJJDP The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) was established to support State and local efforts to prevent delinquency and to improve their juvenile justice systems. Its mission is to provide national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to juvenile offending and child victimization. OJJDP accomplishes its mission by supporting States, local communities, and tribal jurisdictions in their efforts to develop and implement effective, multidisciplinary prevention and intervention programs and improve the capacity of the juvenile justice system to protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and provide treatment and rehabilitative services tailored to the needs of individual juveniles and their families. The Juvenile Justice Clearinghouse OJJDP established the Juvenile Justice Clearinghouse (JJC) in 1979 to enhance and expedite access to juvenile justice information and resources. JJC provides publications, research findings, and program information from the Nation's foremost experts. A team of juvenile justice information specialists is available to respond to inquiries by providing information, publications, and referrals. JJC also offers access to the National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) library, the world's most comprehensive source of criminal and juvenile justice literature, and to NCJRS online services, which provide information from OJJDP and the juvenile justice field. OJJDP Publications OJJDP publications provide up-to-date information for a variety of audiences, including policymakers, practitioners, researchers, community groups, students and faculty, and the general public.
